Track Of The Day :: Insect Heroes - Pop Music

New signings to the Isle of Eigg-based Lost Map label, Insect Heroes - "tropical pop for the Apocalypse" - who release their debut album 'Apocalypso' later this year, have meanwhile put out the track 'Pop Music' as a free download.

Fittingly, as the Glasgow-based duo - brothers George and Evan Thomas: "two nomadic doom mongers and mountaineering enthusiasts" - who are joined by Robin Ashton, Adam Campbell and Laurie Pitt supplying synthesiser, keytar, banjo, drums and percussion, have described their debut album as being "full of weird pop songs", they put out 'Pop Music' which may be a good example. Pop-ish it is, but with quirky, tropical hooks and George's high-pitched vocals that lends something refreshingly uplifting and different to it. You'll find it hard not to throw some dance shapes around the room to this.

Insect Heroes will play at Lost Map's Howlin' Fling festival on the Isle of Eigg, July 18-20.
