Track Of The Day :: Osca - Blood

If hearing the 'newly formed' band Osca has your psychic hunches rearing up in conviction that you have heard them before, well that is probably more than likely.

The now London-based four-piece Osca were formerly Leicester three-piece known as Kenworthy - a name that could just derive from vocalist Jack Kenworthy - or rather, two of them were: Kenworthy himself and bassist Dom Potts.

With new name and a fourth man, Osca initially put out 'Blood' earlier this year as their debut entreè, but in a demo form. Now they are back with a shiny new and complete version of the track (produced by Mikko Gordon - Femme, Atoms For Peace), getting Zane Lowe's stamp of approval as a Next Hype record, and generally creating a buzz of interest.

“It’s about feeling in limbo and holding-on in hope of reassurance,” explains Kenworthy, the song's lyricist, of the meaning behind 'Blood'. Moving from a slow tempo start on vocals and piano, picking up with drums, rumbling waves of percussion and Kenworthy's tantalizing vocal as he sings, “I can give you what/give you what you want/always in my/always in my blood," creating an intense, yet subtly textured, and infectiously catchy track.

Osca support Walking On Cars at Electrowerkz, London on September 10.

'Blood' will appear on the band's debut EP due for release later this summer via Duly Noted Records.
